Victor Grinenco - composer, instrument designer, performer
In his quest for new soundings he has always been interested in the great variety of instruments around the world, specially stringed instruments and droning instruments. Thus he came across with the Hardanger Fiddle or Hardingfele, and instantly fell in love with it’s timbre. After looking for while he met Gervasio Barreiro a great argentinean Luthier who studied in Cremona, Italia, who agreed to build this beautiful instrument for me (1/2 size Hardanger Fiddle).
Later, looking for an instrument capable of different tunings and dynamic tuning, long drones with a sitar-like sound quality he designed the Drum-Harp with his friend Ignacio Aury, from Matra Instruments. This simple stringed instrument consist of a wooden crown with 18 strings (each one has a electric guitar peg) that goes into a drum head, and vibrate the drum head and the whole drum. This strings can generate a traditional plucked stringed timbre, as well as a bowed stringed timbre and/or can be treated as a prepared piano and get really unusual soundings. The large amount of strings allows very interesting sympathetic vibrations and timbre.
As a experimental musician that he is, for many years he has been studying and developing new routes for executing the violin, Hardanger fiddle and other instruments, by conceiving every instrument as a sound object and preparing the instruments (as prepared piano) with different everyday objects.
